Abstract
In order to produce ethanol economically than a conventional process, it is necessary to attain high productivity and low production cost. In this respect, a continuous ethanol pro-duction from sago starch using immobilized amyloglucosidase (AMC) and Zymomonas mobilis cells was studied. Chitin was used for immobilization of the enzyme and Z. mobilis cells were immobilized in the form of sodium alginate beads.
The maximum ethanol productivity in this system based on total working volumeNT, was 19.5 gLl h-t with 84% of the theoretical yield. The steady-state concentration of ethanol (45 g L-t) could be maintained in a stable manner over two weeks.
